A Lighthouse for Dreams and Hope — Dream Pharos
Dream Pharos began with a small dream I had in my early twenties.
After being diagnosed with a serious illness, I began volunteering at a hospital emergency department and a children’s welfare facility, following the advice of a mentor. Having always loved working with children, those experiences inspired a vision: someday, I wanted to use what I could achieve in society to support children and young people facing difficult circumstances and encourage them to pursue their dreams.
More than fifteen years have passed since that dream brought me to Japan.
While in graduate school, I developed a concept for a digital communication service designed to reduce repetitive and manual work in childcare facilities. The idea received recognition in several business plan competitions and eventually led me to launch a startup.
Reality, however, proved far more difficult than I had imagined. An uncertain residency environment, an unstable business foundation, and various personal pressures eventually led me to close the venture.
For a long time afterward, I thought perhaps entrepreneurship simply was not for me, and the name Dream Pharos remained quietly tucked away in a corner of my mind.
Nearly ten years passed.
During those years, I continued my career in Japan while becoming involved in various organizations, communities, events and projects. I had opportunities to meet remarkable people, organize events and exchange programs, connect individuals and organizations, and use my own experience and skills to help others.
Along the way, I realized something important:
Creating value and supporting others does not always require a large business or a great deal of money.
Creating something that someone needs.
Connecting people with one another.
Sharing your experience and abilities.
These, too, can make a meaningful difference.
I also learned another lesson:
Our time passes much faster than we imagine while we wait for “someday.”
And so, after nearly ten years, Dream Pharos is beginning again.
Building on the experiences I have gained while living and working in Japan, I hope to serve as a bridge between Korea and Japan and create projects that enable the next generations of both countries to meet, connect and grow together.
I also hope to work alongside individuals, businesses, organizations and institutions active between Korea and Japan — connecting content, communication, technology and ideas to contribute, even in a small way, to greater exchange and development between the two countries.
Dream Pharos will not begin with grand ambitions.
We will begin with what we can do, where we are, one step at a time.
We will connect people, turn ideas into reality, and gradually build a network and system through which we can create new value together.
